Cards deck Aubrey, 20-9
Aubrey quarterback Mason Robinson scored on a 1-yard run with 2:36 remaining but it was too little too late for the Chaparrals.
The Pottsboro Cardinals knocked off the Chaparrals 20-9 in the season opener at Jim Henderson Stadium Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, Pottsboro scored twice in the second to take a 14-3 halftime lead. Thaddeus Glenn scored the CardinalsŐ second touchdown from six yards out.
Aubrey kicker Evan Moore, who missed his first attempt from 45 yards out, booted through a 29-yard field with 4:56 left in the first half to bring the Chaparrals to within three before GlennŐs touchdown.
Aubrey put together a 12-play drive in the third quarter but lost a fumble leaving the score at 14-3 entering the final frame.
Pottsboro gave itself some breathing room with a 52-yard touchdown with 5:51 left.
