LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

OPINION

I read the article on June 20th about the council debating storm (tornado) sirens and they’re totally missing the point.

Those devices are primarily intended to warn people who are outdoors, not indoors.

Not all people have their cell phone glued to their body at all times where they can hear it ring.

I certainly would not be carrying a weather radio with me while I’m doing anything outside.

I was happy to read about the Code Red program and found out how to sign up online at https://codered.crisis24. com.

This is a great option in the event I do have access to my phone, but it’s not enough when residents’ lives are at stake.

I learned out about the defunct sirens a few years ago when we had a tornado come close to our house and just assumed something was being done to correct the problem.

Shame on me for assuming. The council should be there to protect and serve.

How much is a life worth? What if it was theirs or a loved one?
