The town of Providence Village hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate Opening Day at the Brown Family Ball Field on Saturday.
Providence Village town offi cials, officers from the Foree Ranch Homeowners Association and residents from the community came together with food trucks, bounce houses and music as they celebrated the opening of their new youth baseball and softball field.
“Today is really special for us,” Mayor of Providence Village Linda Inman said. “We finally get to bring in a town-wide amenity for our residents where kids will get to play and families can gather, so today was just a really exciting way to open this up to all of the residents of Providence Village.”
Texas State Rep. Jared Patterson was also on hand for the event and shared his sentiments.
“Having a ball field like that is a huge, huge win for the community,” he said. “It's going to be a central part of life for so many families in [Providence Village] for generations. It’s also going to be a meeting place for the community that will hopefully be filled with a lot of fun and laughter.”
Brown Family Ball Field, located at 1601 Pentro Parkway, was a joint project between the town of Providence Village, housing developer Lennar Homes and Foree Ranch HOA on an 8.5-acre plot donated by the Brown family.
“Together, we've created more than just a field,” said Donna Johnson, on-site manager for Foree Ranch HOA. “We've created a home for future memories, laughter, and community pride. Whether it's a child's first swing of the bat, a weekend family game or simply neighbors coming together, Brown Family Ball Field will be a place that brings us joy for years to come.”
The field is 275 feet long with a dirt infield and fully grass outfield, with black chain-link fencing enclosing the entire field.
It also has two dugouts with powered outlets to plug up speakers and other electrical equipment and covered bleachers to protect the spectators from the sun and foul balls.
The facility offers on-site bathrooms and an equipment room to store the bases and tools needed to line the field with chalk when needed.
The field’s entrance has a sitting area covered by a pavilion with spaces for food trucks to park and serve food during events.
“It’s great because now we can have events and food trucks come out,” Providence Village Mayor Pro Tem Kelly Nelson said. “This is a spectacular place for families to come together, make some memories and have a good afternoon or evening.”
Eventually the field’s usage will be by appointment only once it is added to the town’s civic calendar, but the area immediately outside the outfield wall is also open to the community to play on or host events of their own.
Providence Village resident Shakayla Gray said she is happy to see the town of Providence Village adding things to improve the area.
“I love this because I grew up in a very busy neighborhood where there were pools and parks, so I’m really enjoying watching my kids grow up in an environment where they have a great community and access to things like that,” she said.
