Weather cancels Lions, Bulldogs matchup

The Tioga Bulldogs football game against the Ponder Lions on Sept. 5 was canceled due to inclement weather.

With lightning in the area, Tioga’s home opener at Bulldog Stadium was suspended prior to kick off before being declared no contest after a discussion between coaches and offi- cials.

“We had some unfortunate weather come through this area Friday, which affected some of the local schools,” said Zach Birdwell, Tioga athletic director and head football coach. “UIL guidelines say we can play out in the rain, but we don’t play games with the lightning. … With it being a nondistrict game, a game that truly holds no bearing on the season, the decision was made to move on and get ready for Week 3.”
