Women from Pilot Point and beyond fellowshipped with one another at the St. James Women’s Ministry Tea on Saturday.
The event, with the theme of “A Thirst for God,” brought together women from across the community and from various religious backgrounds to enjoy a meal together and to hear messages of faith from the guest speakers Mary Keeten, Faith Kelley and Sara Goodman.
“We’ve been doing this now, this is our third year, and every year it tends to grow,” said Cheryl Green, one of the organizers of the tea. “So, I know this is what God wants us to do, this is where he wants us to be.”
For the first time, over 200 people registered for the event, and the majority of the individually decorated tables filled with attendees.
“For every woman who is here today, he has a word for each one,” Green said. “What we have to do is accept that word that he gives us and put it in us and then live it.”
Friends and family came to enjoy the chance to not only dress up but also to take in the event together.
“I just think it’s wonderful, especially to gather women together and to celebrate Christ,” said Karen Sanders, who came in from Houston to hear Keeten, her cousin, speak.
Sara Lee loved the opportunity to bring her girls.
“It means a lot,” she said. “It’s about creating memories and bringing them to environments that will help them advance in life.”
The speakers shared messages that touched on women in the Bible, with Keeten, the first speaker, focusing on Mary Magdalene and on the woman taken in adultery.
“The enemy doesn’t want the church to be equipped to minister to women who may be bound, who are in bondage, who are suffocating in spiritual or mental illness,” she said. “But we have got to know that Jesus is on the scene. In my experience, those evil spirts have got to be cast out so women can be free.”
