“There’s no place like home,” and the phrase rang true with the Collinsville Pirates football team returning to W.L. Stephenson Sports Complex and dominating the Wolfe City Wolves 42-14 on Sept. 19.
The win comes one week after the Pirates suffered their first loss of the season in a road matchup against the Callisburg Wildcats.
Wolfe City scored first when running back H.D. Davis took the first handoff of the game and raced 70 yards for a touchdown, giving the Wolves a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter after a successful extra point kick by Khalid Chavarria.
After forcing the Pirates to punt, the Wolves struck again, with a 49-yard pass from Noah Adams to Davis, pushing the Wolfe City lead to 14 points.
The Pirates were able to right their ship, and they would go on to score 42 unanswered points to secure their third victory of the season.
Paxton Davidson started the scoring barrage on Collinsville’s next possession when he called his own number and cruised 61 yards to the end zone, putting the Pirates on the board 14-7 after Isaiah Smith nailed the point after.
The Pirates' defense stepped up on the next drive, picking off a Wolfe City pass, and Paxton found the end zone again from, rumbling into the end zone from 44 yards out, knotting the score at 14.
Collinsville added another score just before halftime with a 5-yard touchdown run by receiver Landry Spivey to send the teams to the halftime locker rooms with the Pirates leading the Wolves 21-14.
Collinsville got the ball to start the third period of play, and on the ninth play of the drive, Paxton connected with receiver Chad Davidson on a 27-yard touchdown strike, pushing the Pirates' lead to 14 points.
The Pirate defense shut down the Wolves offense in the second half, allowing only 74 total yards, while the Pirate offense kept on churning out yards and points.
Collinsville scored on their next two drives to seal the win, with Paxton completing a hat trick when he rushed 10 yards for his third touchdown of the game, followed by receiver Carter Larance catching a 3-yard touchdown dart, making the final score 4214.
Davis led Wolfe City with 178 yards rushing, 49 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns.
Collinsville was led by Paxton who threw for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed for 255 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Collinsville will close out the nondistrict portion of their schedule in a neutralsite game against the Coleman Bluecats at 7 p.m. Friday in Breckenridge.
