The Collinsville Pirates closed out their non-district schedule with a neutral- site game in Breckenridge, where they defeated the Coleman Bluecats 44-20 on Sept. 26.
Collinsville’s offense was running on all cylinders as they raced out to a 24-0 lead.
The Davidson boys got the party started for the Pirates when quarterback Paxton Davidson tossed a 29-yard touchdown to receiver Chad Davidson, giving Collinsville the lead 7-0 after kicker Isaiah Smith hit the point after.
The Pirates added 3 more points on a drive that started in the first quarter and ended midway into the second quarter when Smith hit a 30-yard field goal.
Two more second-quarter touchdowns would effectively put the game away for the Pirates.
The first of the two came on a short goal line plunge by running back Chase Sheppard, followed by Chad catching his second receiving touchdown of the half on a 17-yard pass from Paxton.
Coleman would finally get on the board with a 61yard touchdown pass from Hunter Edington to Micah Lackey.
That was the highlight of the first half for Coleman, as they were intercepted by defensive back Carter Larance on their next possession, sending the two teams into the half with Collinsville up 24-7.
The Pirates kept rolling in the second half, scoring on their first possession of the third quarter when Sheppard found the end zone for the second time in the game, this time from 5 yards out, extending Collinsville’s lead to 31-7.
Coleman kept fighting and was able to get two second half touchdowns—the first came on an 11-yard catch from Edington to Paul Salas, but the extra point attempt was blocked by Larance.
The final Bluecat points came midway through the fourth quarter when Edington connected with Salas for the second time, giving Coleman 20 points on the night. Paxton would throw 2 more touchdown strikes for the Pirates, finding Caysen Schafer for a 42-yarder and Jaxon Spivey from 13 yards out, icing the game 44-20.
The Collinsville defense was stout all night long, allowing only 6 rushing yards in the first half and holding the Bluecats to only 59 yards rushing for the game.
On the other side of the ball, Collinsville relied on the aerial performance of Paxton Davidson, who finished completing 20 of 26 for 266 yards passing, 60 yards rushing, no interceptions and 4 touchdowns.
Other top performers for the Pirates were Sheppard, with 69 yards on the ground, 49 yards through the air, and 2 touchdowns, and Chad, who had 3 catches for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Collinsville has a bye week before returning to W.L. Stephenson Sports Complex for homecoming and their district opener against the Chico Dragons on Oct. 10.
