Aubrey invites public to station opening

Aubrey invites public to station opening

Station 3 in Aubrey is functionally open, and the public is invited to tour it.

Fire Chief Eric Schlotter said they are working through warranty and punch list issues.

'It is in full operation, both the fire and police side,' he said. 'We do have the grand opening scheduled for Oct. 8 at 10 a.m.'

Construction on Station 2 is also moving forward, he said, with it on track for a late October completion.

The Municipal Development District also had its first reading on a grant application for demolition of buildings on a downtown property that will be a future commercial site at 705 W. Sherman Drive for $18,750.

'They plan to do some business development on it in the future,' Executive Director Christine Gossett said. '... We believe this will be an improvement to a large parcel that is also a west-side entry to the corridor for downtown Aubrey.'

After executive, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Chuck Fikes made a motion to 'authorize the city manager to negotiate and execute an agreement for the purposes of land for municipal purposes, including a fire training facility as discussed in closed session.'

That motion was approved in a 5-0 vote.

The council then also approved the city manager to execute the purchase of 200 E. Elm St., which was deeded to the city by RCW Investments on July 31, according to the Denton Central Appraisal District website.

Early in the meeting, administrative clerk Kacey Hagen was introduced to the council and the public.

The Aubrey City Council looks over the materials about a potential MDD grant.
