The Collinsville Pirates opened their district schedule at home, defeating the Chico Dragons 42-7.
The Collinsville offense generated 1 rushing touchdown and 5 receiving touchdowns on the night, while the defense notched 2 interceptions and held Chico to 149 total yards of offense.
The Pirates won the opening coin toss, elected to receive and wasted no time in scoring with Chase Sheppard racing for 51 yards for a rushing touchdown on their third offensive play.
Collinsville kicker Isaiah Smith nailed the point after, giving the Pirates an early 7-0 lead.
After forcing Chico into a three-and-out, Collinsville’s offense only needed two plays to find the end zone again when quarterback Paxton Davidson threw a dart to receiver Chad Davidson who took it 51 yards for a touchdown, putting the Pirates up by 14 points in the first quarter.
Chico’s second drive showed some promise with them moving the ball all the way to the Pirate 32-yard line with 12 straight running plays.
However, their first passing play of the drive was picked off at the 27yard line by defensive back Caysen Schaffer.
Collinsville needed just one play to make Chico pay, with Paxton finding running back Trent Stewart open in the flat.
Stewart then proceeded to race through the Dragon defense for a 73-yard touchdown, giving the Pirates a commanding 21-0 lead one minute into the second quarter.
The Pirates’ defense continued to stifle the Dragons’, forcing three more three-and-outs in the second quarter, while Collinsville’s offense faced no such roadblocks, scoring two more touchdowns in the second quarter.
Paxton connected with Carter Larance for a 29-yard touchdown and Schaffer from 58 yards out to put the Pirates ahead 35-0.
On their opening drive of the second half, Collinsville scored one more time when Paxton threw his fifth touchdown on an 8-yard toss to Jaxon Spivey, extending Collinsville’s lead to 42-0.
Chico would get on the board in the fourth quarter when Maverick Barfield tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Braden Borchardt to make the final score 42-7.
Paxton led the Pirates with 299 yards passing and connected with a different receiver on each of his 5 touchdown passes.
Sheppard led the way on the ground with 54 yards rushing, while Chad, Schaffer, Stewart and Larance each had over 40 receiving yards.
Collinsville returns to the gridiron in a road game against Lindsay at 7 p.m. Friday.
