The Aubrey Lady Chaparrals volleyball team extended its winning streak to 21 wins in a row, with a clean sweep of the Lake Dallas Eagles on Oct. 10.
Aubrey’s home crowd was in full force for senior night as the Lady Chaps lit up the scoreboard, outscoring their opponent 75-29 over the match’s three sets.
“We've been working this week on starting fast, and I thought we did a really good job on that,” Aubrey head volleyball coach Whitney Marriott said. “We did some good things on offense, and our defense was moving very well, and I thought we were able to get a lot of different looks in a lot of different areas tonight.”
The Lady Chaps pounced on the Eagles early in the match, dominating the game’s opening with a score of 25-0.
Lake Dallas showed signs of life in the second set, but Aubrey quickly recovered and smothered the Eagles’ hopes, winning 25-14.
The Lady Chaps continued to keep the Eagles’ ground in the third set, winning 25-15.
Middle blocker Shaelyn Ward led Aubrey with 19 kills, followed by middle blocker Kylie Miller, who finished with 10 kills and 2 blocks.
Setter Baylee Hampton continued to drop dimes to her teammates, generating 40 assists, while defensive specialist Addy Cagle led the defense with 12 digs, followed by libero Emma Conley, who finished with 10 digs.
The Lady Chaps haven’t lost a match since midway through August, and Miller credited the team’s success to their chemistry.
“We don't play like individuals,” she said. “We all play for each other, and we show up to practice every day with a good mindset and good energy.”
The night was extra sweet for the Lady Chaps with the team’s eight seniors—Ward, Miller, Hampton, Cagle, Ava Thompson, Emily Shearer, Margaret Conley, Hannah Grimes and team manager Kenzie Temple—being honored in front of their friends, family and peers after the win.
“Seeing all the love and support from the fans and the teammates I’ve grown up with since middle school felt really special,” Cagle said.
Team manager Temple also shared her thoughts on her role with the team and the senior night festivities.
“Being part of the team is amazing,” Temple said. 'All of the girls are so nice and have included me in everything even though I’m not a player. My cousin, [Mak Barber], had a [beautiful] speech, and walking out with my entire family was amazing.”
Marriott emphasized her appreciation for this year’s crop of seniors.
“[I’m] just really proud of those kids,” Marriott said. “It's the biggest senior class since I've been here, and a lot of those kids have had a lot of years on varsity and a lot of success the last couple of years. I think whatever they can manage to do through the playoffs will probably put them as one of the most successful classes.”
Aubrey followed their win over Lake Dallas with another win over the Frisco Panther Creek Panthers on the road Tuesday evening, bringing their record to 38-2 on the season.
The Lady Chaps will be back on the court at 4:30 p.m. Friday in a home matchup with Van Alstyne.
