Cross country season hit the home stretch in the Ranch Cities, with Pilot Point, Aubrey, Tioga and Collinsville competing at the 2025 UIL Region II & III-1A XC Championships in Arlington on Monday and Tuesday.
The Pilot Point Lady Cats took bronze in the 3A Girls 2-mile race, placing third overall as a team, and the Bearcats finished fifth overall as a team.
“I’m really happy that the girls qualified for state,” said Jeff Price, Pilot Point head cross country coach. “Finishing third in a tough region, so I’m proud of them, especially the seniors that were able to make it to state as a team four years in a row.”
Junior Madison Coronado led the way for the Lady Cats, finishing fourth out of 179 competitors, with a personal record time of 12:17.75, followed by senior Ava Smith, who finished 17th with a time of 12:48.48.
Senior Kaelyn Chaney finished 26th with a time of 13:07.99, followed by sophomore Sophia Garcia, who finished 35th with a time of 13:20.55, and senior Daiyton DeLeon, who finished 45th with a time of 13:37.51.
Senior Rylee LeMarr and freshman Emily Castillo rounded out the Lady Chaps team, finishing with times of 13:51.77 and 14:08.76.
This marks the Lady Cats’ 12th appearance at the state meet since 2012 and their fourth year in a row, and Price said he is excited to see what this year’s team can accomplish on the big stage.
“We’re trying to run our best, obviously,” he said. “Hopefully we can run great, and maybe we can sneak into the podium spot, but we’re really pumped to see what our girls can do.”
