Krugerville Police Department Chief Stoney Ward brought a couple of requests to the City Council during the Oct. 22 meeting.
The council looked over several bids for adding covered parking behind the police station 'We went out there thinking we were giong to be like James Wood and have coverings like that,' Mayor Pro Tem Kristen Kromer said. 'And those bids came in at $67,000.'
The city received more reasonable bids around $24,000.
Council member Rodney Cagle asked for additional referrals for one of the companies, Timber Moore, about the bids before deciding.
'Bang for the buck's great,' he said. 'You know the quality you're going to get out of Sure Fire [Concrete]. It's just the unknown is the unknown.'
Council member Stacey Sasser agreed that it would be good 'to do our due diligence.'
The council approved a not-to-exceed number of $30,000 paid from the 2024 bond funds for the project contingent on recommendations for Timber Moore.
The council also discussed asking the city of Aubrey whether it would be willing to split costs on an Opticomm device on the U.S. 377/ Stewart Road/Arvin Hill Road signal.
Ward said the new police vehicle the city has ordered will be delivered either later in October or in November.
He also let the council know his staff plans to work on organizing the evidence and property room starting on Nov. 4.
City Administrator and City Secretary Sandy Frantz also informed the council that for 'the third year in a row' the city's health insurance rates stayed the same.
Only one type of coverage went up by $2.10 per month per employee for a total of $226.80, which is less than the budget room Frantz built in for insurance increases.
City Accountant Heidi Avera also gave a snapshot view of the financials for September.
'Budgeted items over in the expense was only exceeded pretty much in one category; that was professional services,' she said, but that overall the month showed a surplus.
The council also denied a variance request for a steel pipe fence at 407 Surveyors Road based on a recommendation from Aubrey Fire Department, Cagle said.
The council also gave conditional approval for Industrial Reserve and authorized Frantz to solicit bids for a commercial sewer project along U.S. 377.
