Providence Village resident Denise Vidal had a one-in-amillion chance to survive, and the Aubrey Fire Department made that chance a reality.
In turn, Vidal thanked the people she called her heroes at the Aubrey City Council meeting on Oct. 23.
“On June 21, I had a major heart attack,” she said. “It was a no-pain heart attack. I had no idea. I just passed out at my house. Luckily, my friend was there, who immediately called 911.”
The crew arrived within four minutes to her home from Station 3 at FM 2931 and Frontier Parkway, “which was exceptional,” Vidal said.
“If it wasn’t for my heroes, I wouldn’t be here talking to y’all,” she said. “I am totally indebted to not only the paramedics and EMS that took care of me, I’m actually indebted to Station 3.”
She added that the combination “gave [her] another chance at life.”
Vidal presented a plaque that began “Thank you, My Heroes,” to the AFD members who helped her, asking firefighter Jordan Craighead to read it to the council and public.
“This plaque serves as a permanent reminder of the difference you make every day,” Craighead read.
Vidal then posed for a picture with Craighead and Driver Engineer Preston Brooks.
Captain Kyle Covington, the third person listed on the plaque, was unable to attend.
Also at the meeting, the council held public hearings regarding annexation of land along Blackjack Road as well as a portion of FM 428 as well as setting public hearings for two additional annexation requests for a tract along Blackjack Road and a portion of McNatt Road, both of which will be on Nov. 12 and Nov. 20.
The council also approved a targeted improvement grant from the Aubrey Municipal Development District to the property owner of 705 W. Sherman Drive for $18,750.
Following its executive session, the council also voted to purchase 102 Sycamore St. and 104 Sycamore St., both of which are between West Sherman Drive and East Elm Street.
Tanya Barnett and Rachel McClintock, both administrative coordinators for the Aubrey Police Department, were introduced at the meeting by Chief Richard Brooks.
“So far, they’ve just been with us a few months, but so far, they are doing outstanding work [increasing] our effectiveness and our efficiency,” he said.
Council member Matt Jones also received a special award from a contingent of Aubrey ISD middle school athletes for donating food for the middle school football games for two seasons.
In the consent agenda, the council also approved a resolution asking the United States Postal Service to “consider adjusting the zip code boundary and/or city name designation along the northern boundary of the city limits,” where in the past addresses within Aubrey’s jurisdiction have borne a Pilot Point address.
The department updates included information about the new Fire Station 2, which is nearing completion, the APD Blackjack Station and property room expansion project and the progress made on the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
