The ongoing federal government shutdown has prompted Tinker Federal Credit Union, a local financial institution with a branch in Cross Roads, to offer financial relief to people directly affected by the shutdown.
Tinker is offering fee refunds, 0% loans for qualifying members, interestonly payment plans and no-fee skip-apayment opportunities, the release said.
'As the ongoing government shutdown continues to impact U.S. citizens, Tinker Federal Credit Union (TFCU) has launched a hardship relief program to help its members stay financially steady and is making donations to help our communities during this uncertain time,' according to the release.
The credit union has also opted to donate $5,000 to the North Texas Food Bank and $500 to the Denton Community Food Center.
In addition, Tinker is offering free financial coaching about issues such as budgeting and credit building by calling 405-319-7991 or emailing membersolutionsreferrals@ tinkerfcu. org.
Tinker also has provided a 'Shutdown Survival Guide' accessible at facebook.com/share/ v/1A66wkVG1R, which spells out a blend of the services the credit union offers and general tips to help avoid possible financial pitfalls.
Although it is not rolling out a formal plan such as Tinker's, Point-Bank officials said they would handle assisting customers in financial difficulties from the shutdown on a more individualized basis.
'PointBank does assist their customers when they're having hardships,' PointBank CEO Raymond David Sr. said.
The Pilot Point Branch of Texas Republic Bank is also trying to do its part to help people affected by the economic shortfall.
'Texas Republic Bank will be organizing a food drive benefiting Shepherd's Storehouse to help our community,' said Julie Holloway, Texas Republic Bank Pilot Point branch operations supervisor. 'This is something we always do during Christmas, but due to the struggles during the government shutdown we are starting the food drive now.'
