Thomas 'Tommy' Hunter, who served on the council for over five years before, was one of four applicants for the spot that opened upon Jim Coffey's resignation.

'We really appreciate everybody putting in their time and wanting to come into [the council],' Mayor Craig Jezek said, adding that he encouraged the applicants not selected to serve on other boards in the city. '… We want to award it to Tommy. Tommy has served on the council before, so the experience is above and beyond.'

Eric Terry, Duane Mc-Gurk and Robert Wishmeyer also applied for the seat.

Hunter, who was sworn in inside City Hall on Monday evening, shared that he was honored to be selected.

'In a way it's humbling, because I'm here to serve the people as I have before in the past,' he said. 'It's great to be selected by the current council. … Some of the council, I've worked with in the past and we've gotten a lot of things accomplished, and I hope to be able to help the community again. That's what we're taught by God— to help your community and your fellow man.'

Early in the meeting, the council also recognized Coffey by giving him a street sign bearing his name and years of service.

'I loved it,' Coffey said of the chance to serve on the council. 'It was an opportunity that I'll never forget, a lot of fun and I love serving the community anyway, so it was a great win-win.'

The council also approved the sale of two former police vehicles, the Chevy Tahoe for $1,500 and the Ford Explorer for $525, after opening the sealed bids.
