A hundred families have turkeys thanks to a donation by PointBank to the Shepherd’s Storehouse in Pilot Point.
Serving the community is important to the leaders of PointBank, which is why the bank has contributed to the faith-based food bank in Pilot Point since its creation in 1989.
“The bank for many years has furnished almost all of our turkeys,” Shepherd’s Storehouse Founder Luther Slay said. “And they have been so faithful to us.”
Slay is grateful for PointBank’s consistency.
“PointBank was the first business in this whole area that made a financial contribution to the Shepherd’s Storehouse,” he said.
That’s an intentional choice.
“PointBank is big on supporting the whole Pilot Point community,” Point-Bank CEO Raymond David Sr. said, adding, “That’s what it’s all about: giving back.”
Shepherd’s Storehouse, which provides people in Pilot Point and the surrounding communities with food and financial support based on demonstrated need, is volunteerrun and takes no state or federal funding.
“Just the good Lord that takes care of us— that’s the whole truth,” Slay said. “If not for Him, and what He’s done for us through the years, we wouldn’t be here.”
Relying on donations can be a harrowing experience, but Slay has faith in the way the nonprofit operates.
“Anytime we get low on this low on that, he sends it to us just out of the clear blue sky,” he said.
Slay is grateful, too, for the team who helps stock and run the storehouse.
“They work hard; they’re faithful,” Slay said. “I can’t say enough good things about them. To have 50 volunteers and have all of them good … is a miracle.”
Each family who the storehouse serves receives a turkey to make their Thanksgiving table complete.
Other Thanksgiving staples are also distributed by the food bank, courtesy of donors like Point-Bank and local schools that gather canned and boxed food to benefit those battling food insecurity.
The pantry is located at 1189 U.S. 377 in Pilot Point.
