Cyclist struck, dies

A man is dead as a result of a vehicle-bicycle accident on Nov. 14.

The motorist involved in the incident called the Pilot Point Police Department to report “that their vehicle collided with a bicyclist in the area of North Washington Street and North Jefferson Street,” according to a PPPD release.

“We can’t really give out too much more information,” PPPD Chief Angela Mathews said. “We are still working on getting paperwork back for this and investigating. There are still some things that I’m still waiting to hear back from regarding my offi cers and the case.” Despite the efforts of the Pilot Point Fire Department, the man 'succumbed to [his] injuries and was pronounced deceased after arriving at Medical City Denton,' the release said.

Mathews said she could not release more information or verify the name of the cyclist.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's website listed that Jose Guadalupe González Nunez, 25, was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. as a result of blunt force trauma with the manner of death listed as an accident with the Pilot Point Police Department listed on the report.

The accident happened a little over an hour after sunset.

Without speaking to the details of the incident, which is still under investigation, Mathews shared some state-required safety regulations for bicyclists who are riding on the street.

'The one thing that I can say is that, when you're on a roadway, if you're on a bicycle, especially if it's at night, make sure you have the required lighting that's supposed to go on there,' Mathews said. '… That is the main thing. And then that you are also following the rules of the roadway when you're on a bicycle, day or night.'

State law requires bicyclists to have a headlight lamp and a flashlight taillight, Sgt. Andy Biggs said, 'for any time after the sun sets.'

The white front lamp must be visible from 500 feet, and the red rear light must be visible from at least 300 feet away.

' Additional safety, they can do reflective vests or clothing or hand signals, things like that,' Mathews added.

A GoFundMe under the name Ayuda 'Help' para Nuestra Familia González, organized by Yesenia Martinez, asks in Spanish for help in paying for the costs of González' funeral and the possibility of sending his body to Cortazar, Guanajuato, Mexico.

'Mi hermano/cuñado Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez falleció el 14 Noviembre 2025,' the GoFundMe says. 'Fue una tragedia el fue atropellado mientras andaba en su bicicleta.'

She goes on to ask for any assistance possible to help the family and thanks those who help for their kindness and support.
