OPINION
Timing of holidays can be incredibly tricky in the newspaper industry.
We rarely take off the same holidays others get because there are community celebrations or other news worth reporting that mean you have to step away from family time to keep the paper going for the week.
Last year, we expanded our traditional Year in Review from a two-page spread to a full year-in-review paper to give our staff the chance to take off time from Christmas Eve to nearly New Year's Dayat once.
This year, both Christmas and New Years hit in the middle of the week, which throws off our print schedule.
It's also a time when most people are focusing on private celebrations and travel instead of having events or meetings.
With the knowledge that we're going to have a shorter print week and that our staff also wants to be able to spend time with family in that window, we will be expanding our year-in-review again.
This year, we will be having two issues that dive into the coverage we've published in 2025.
The Dec. 26 paper will feature pieces from January through June.
The Jan. 2 paper will have pieces from July to December. Here's where you come in; I would love some input from our readers about which stories you think deserve to be in print again. Was there a feature that really resonated with you? Did you particularly love a certain sports story? Did one of our columnists share something that stuck with you? Reach out to me, either via email or phone, please, and let us know what you think deserves an encore appearance.
I want to say thank you, too, in advance for letting us have that break to spend time with our loved ones and to reset for the upcoming year.
It's amazing how lightning quick this year has flown by.
As I've said before, my, what a difference a year makes.
I hope this time of excitement and holiday spirit is a merry one for you and your family.
