The University Interscholastic League realignment cycle has arrived, and the interschool organization recently released division and cutoff numbers for 202628.
Pilot Point ISD will remain in 3A Division I with an enrollment of 531 students as of Oct. 31 enrollment numbers.
“It's not a surprise; I really thought where our numbers hit, that's probably where we would go,” said Chad Worrell, Pilot Point athletic director and head football coach. “There have been some rumors, like there are every two years, about what the numbers would do …, but I thought we'd be where we are, and most of our area teams have stayed the same. Ponder went up, and Gunter came up to 3A Division I, so that'll make a difference not only in our football districts but also in our spring sports and volleyball d istricts, but we'll wait and see what the first week of February brings and go from there.”
Aubrey ISD is staying in 4A Division I with an enrollment of 1,258.5 students as of Oct. 31 enrollment numbers.
“We’re obviously very excited about staying in Division I for two more years,” said Keith Ivy, Aubrey athletic director and head football coach. “There were certainly some changes to our district with three schools— Celina, [Frisco] Panther Creek and Community— going up to 5A, and we don't know which direction we're going to be going in district quite yet … but we're more than excited to be where we're at, and with our numbers we’ll certainly be at the top of our division enrollment-wise, and we feel like that’ll be beneficial to us for the next two years.”
Tioga ISD will remain in 2A Division I with an enrollment of 237 students as of Oct. 31, and Collinsville ISD will continue in 2A Division II with an enrollment of 167 students.
The next step after the UIL realignment will be assigning the schools to districts, which is expected Feb. 2.
