Powerlifting kicks off season in Celina

The belts are fastened and the weights are unracked, with the Pilot Point Bearcats and Lady Cats opening powerlifting season in Celina on Jan. 16.

The Bearcats had 10 lifters competing in the unequipped division, where minimal gear or supports are utilized.

Cole Krouskup earned bronze in the 132-pound weight class with a weight total of 680 pounds lifted.

Everett Lebsack took gold in the 148-pound weight class, with a weight total of 835 pounds.

Myles Marsh secured silver in the 148-pound weight class, lifting a total of 820 pounds.

Riley Scholl finished fourth in the 165-pound weight class, with a weight total of 775 pounds.

Buster Springer and Christian Sheeder also competed in the 165-pound weight class, finishing fifth and sixth with weight totals of 770 pounds and 755 pounds.

Mitchell Eddins finished first in the 198-pound weight class with a weight total of 1,105 pounds.

Alex Ascencio finished second in the 198-pound weight class with a weight total of 935 pounds.

Memo Esparza finished first in the 220-pound weight class, lifting a total of 1,030 pounds.

Connor Morris finished second in the 220-pound weight class, with a weight total of 765 pounds.

Daniel Medrano and Lucas Herrara were the Bearcats lone lifters competing in the equipped division, which allows lifters to use supportive suits and shirts.

Daniel won gold in the 198-pound weight class, lifting a total of 1,325 pounds.

Herrera finished first in the 275-pound weight class, lifting a total of 1,255 pounds.

The Lady Cats were also represented in Celina, with Camilla Medrano finishing first in the 114-pound weight class with a total of 490 pounds lifted.

Vanessa Escalante finished first in the 123-pound weight class, lifting a total of 505 pounds.

Alliyah Smith finished first in the 220-pound weight class with a weight total of 680 pounds.

Lillie Kirby finished third in the 220-pound weight class, lifting a total of 585 pounds.
