The Aubrey Lady Chaparrals girls varsity soccer team secured their third district win of the season and third win in a row, with a 6-0 win over the Farmersville Lady Farmers on Jan. 22.

The match was played a day early to avoid the winter storm on Friday, but the Lady Chaps were ready to play, dismantling the Lady Farmers from horn to horn.

“It was a hard-fought win,” said Kelli Baker, Aubrey head girls soccer coach. “… It was very physical game, with a couple cards for both teams, but I'm really proud of our girls for keeping their composure and not being baited into some of the hard fouls. We demonstrated a lot of composure and class with how well we were playing.”

The Lady Chaps hit the pitch firing on all cylinders, scoring the match’s first goal when Daniella Dominic-Etuk slipped through the Lady Farmers defense for a breakaway that was finished by Eva Jones.

Brynnlee Bohannon found the back of the net, scoring Aubrey’s second goal off an assist from Kali Madden and putting the Lady Chaps up 2-0.

Co-captain Landry Gannon added Aubrey’s third and fourth goals on penalty kicks after being fouled in the box.

Dominic-Etuk closed out the first half with the Lady Chaps’ fifth goal of the night, assisted by Payton Canterbury to send the two teams into the half with Aubrey leading 5-0.

In the second half, Dominic-Etuk picked up where she left off in the first, finding the back of the net off an assist from Gannon and giving the Lady Chaps a 6-0 lead and the win.

Gannon and Dominic-Etuk lead Aubrey with 2 goals and 1 assist each.

“For me, the biggest thing was staying mentally tough and focused,” Gannon said. “I trusted my teammates and knew if we kept pushing through, we’d continue to create opportunities, and as a leader, I want my teammates to see how important it is to stay resilient, keep their composure and keep working for each other regardless of how physical or tough the game gets.”

Baker also highlighted the Lady Chaps’ back line of Emerson Briley, Jordin Gomez, Lily Stewart and Laurelei Baker, who only allowed the opposing team seven shots on Aubrey’s goal.

Another highlight for Aubrey this season has been co-captain Bohannon, who recently scored her 100th career goal for the Lady Chaps.

“I am honored to get the opportunity to be able to get my 100th goal,” she said. “It was even more special that my sister was the one to assist me, but I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this without my team and their support. It means a lot to me to be a part of such a supportive and well-knit team that’s like a family.”

Now sitting at 7-1-1 on the season and third in the district, Baker said the Lady Chaps are focused on taking things one step at a time.

“We're trying to build a lasting legacy,” he said. “That's what the seniors want to do because they're the first four-year class, [but] you can't build the whole thing at once. You have to lay one brick at a time, and so we're just taking it one game at a time. We look at our opponent. We find out how we can go out and play our best soccer and how we can put them away.”

The Lady Chaps were scheduled to return to the pitch to face the Gainesville Lady Leopards at 5 p.m. Thursday at Chaparral Memorial Stadium in Aubrey.

The results were not available by press time.
