Winter Storm Fern kept kids at home for five days of school.
Now, school districts get to determine how they will make up those instructional minutes.
'Monday, April 6, and Monday, May 11, are now both regular school days for students to make-up for two of the five days missed last week,' Tioga ISD announced Tuesday. 'A TEA waiver will be requested for the remaining three days missed last week. If approved, the waiver will cover those three days and there will be no need to 'make-up' the three days.'
Aubrey ISD Superintendent Dr. Shannon Saylor shared some similar information on Tuesday.
She clarified that it's the board's decision how to handle the response.
' Our options typically include using the built-in badweather days and/or adding instructional minutes to meet the 75,600-minute requirement,' Saylor said. 'However, since so many school districts faced extraordinary circumstances with hazardous travel conditions, applying for a waiver through the Texas Education Agency may be an option to excuse our missed days beyond the 75,600 minutes in hopes our waiver gets approved, if that's the direction the board wants to take.'
Pilot Point ISD will face a similar decision.
