A Pilot Point incident on Dec. 20 that resulted in the death of two bicyclists, Andre Kocher, 60, and Scott Mages, 55, is still under investigation, the Pilot Point Police Department said.
The crash report lists Elisio Mauala, who was 23 at the time of the incident, as the driver.
'At this time, this investigation continues to be open and active,' the city of Pilot Point said. 'The Pilot Point Police Department is working closely with the Denton County District Attorney’s Office to ensure the investigation is thorough, accurate, and handled in accordance with applicable laws and legal standards. Our priority is to ensure that all facts are fully examined before any final determinations are made.'
PPPD Sgt. Andy Biggs responded on the scene and handled the investigation, with Aubrey Police Department handling the traffic management, Pilot Point Police Chief Angela Mathews said Wednesday, with Biggs leaving the scene to go to the hospitals as part of the process.
The report says Mauala was unlicensed and it lists the cause of the incident as 'driver inattention' and speeding.
