Mayor shares State of Town

Providence Village Mayor Linda Inman highlighted some of the town's biggest milestones, including May of 2025, marking 15 years as a town in her State of the Town presentation at the Tuesday Town Council meeting.

Inman opened the 2025 annual report with the statement, “It’s not just about the numbers on the screen, it's about progress, priorities and the people who make Providence really such a special place to call home.”

She continued and gave thanks to fellow council members for their efforts to guide the community forward along with Town Manager Brian Roberson and his team.

“We put a lot of pressure on him to find ways to keep lowering our tax rate while also trying to get things that our residents want,” Inman said. “He's kind of like our own personal circus ringleader performing a balancing act, while being on a tightrope, juggling all of the things.”

The report shows how the Town Council has lowered the property tax rate for the 10th year in a row.

“This year, we reduced it by nearly half a penny per $100 of assessed value,” Inman said. “That's not just symbolic; that's real savings that the families here will see.”

Inman then shared a moment where the town made additional strides for residents.

“We implemented an over 65 exemption, freezing property values for qualifying residents,” she said. “That was a major milestone. It reflects something important. We're growing, but we're also protecting the people who built this community.”

Her report also discussed a budget that included investments in code compliance, law enforcement and town maintenance.

Aubrey Fire Department Station No. 3 opened in 2025, Station No. 2 is expected to open this year and the Aubrey Police Department has increased by around 26%.

Staff reports showed a steady increase in business in 2025, including Sprouts, Shell 380 and City Vet, and projects expected to open this year include Providence Square, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels/Jamba Juice and a dentist office.

New residential home construction has risen, too, Inman said, as the permits issued have increased by 5.6%.

Also in the works is a water meter replacement project, in which Inframark will replace older water meters with smart meters.

Another project residents can expect to see is an app called EyeOnWater, which will provide daily updates on water usage, set to roll out by the summer.

Inman also highlighted some of the town’s local events, including the return of the Mini Moon Market on March 21, storytime at Town Hall, and many other traditions and events.

The presentation concluded with updates to the town's website and technology, with a focus on transparency.

In Inman’s closing remarks, she said, “Providence Village is growing, but we're growing with intention, with planning, with partnership, and with our community at the center of every decision.”

“None of this progress happens by accident,” Inman said. “It happens because of our residents, our volunteers, our town staff, our council, our partners— together, we're building not just a town, but a future.”

The board also voted to cancel its May 2 election.

Inman and Mayor Pro Tem Kelly Nelson in Place 1 ran unopposed, and Elise Jumbelick ran uncontested for Place 6.

There will be a special election on the May 2 ballot to fill Dustin Clay’s seat, with Jason Lucas, Blake Marts and Bryant Wilson filing for the seat.

On Tuesday, the board also issued a proclamation declaring March 6 Maintenance Day, honoring the team that consists of four people: Trey McWhirter, Justus Simpkins, Jacob Morrow and Isaac Rodriguez.

Roberson spoke about the maintenance team's diligence and hard work, rain or shine.

“We appreciate their commitment to their job, and more importantly, to our community,” he said.

Inman agreed. “They are people of many hats,” she said. “They serve several functions, not just maintenance, and it's truly great that we have people who can do that for us and are so willing to. So, we do appreciate you.”
