Krugerville will work with the Texas Department of Transportation to install Flock cameras along U.S. 377.
The City Council voted on Feb. 25 to authorize a multipleuse agreement between TxDOT and Krugerville Police Chief Stoney Ward “allowing the installation and operation of automated license plate recognition cameras in the TxDOT right of way at U.S. 377 and Stewart Road,” according to the agenda packet.
The topic was discussed at the January City Council meeting, when the council decided on and approved a funding source for the Flock Safety camera systems.
Ward had said that the cameras are an added asset for police investigations.
Ward added that he hopes to have the cameras activated and in operation “within a month's span.”
Ward also shared that two police officers are now patrolling.
“Now, there's an officer that's filling each shift that we've got in our police department,” Ward said.
Newly appointed board member Matt Cruson asked for details about a recently constructed billboard along U.S. 377.
The City’s Code of Ordinances for signage extends to its ETJ, where the billboard is located.
City Secretary and Court Administrator Sandy Frantz shared her conversation with a TxDOT spokesperson.
“The representative from TxDOT explained it was a common practice for these types of sign companies to look for locations such as this,” Frantz said. “It makes it easier for them to bypass the city’s requirement for permitting and submit their applications to the state.”
The city canceled its May general election as board members Marion Ragsdale, Place 2; Stacey Sasser, Place 4; and Mayor Rodney Cagle all ran unopposed, securing their seats for another term.
“Several towns around here canceled,” Cagle said. “If we would have had one, it would have been costly.”
Cagle expressed his excitement for his colleagues, saying, “Congratulations to you all for running unopposed.”
Earlier in the meeting, he conveyed his thanks for his new position as mayor.
“I appreciate everybody's support, and I look forward to the next couple of years of rocking and rolling,” he said.
