OPINION
There's a reason art is considered invaluable.
It not only provides a means of expression for the artist, but also a way of exploring the world for the observer.
On March 20, the Owens Middle School fine arts teachers worked together to provide their students an opportunity to showcase their artistic side.
Students involved in theater, art, choir and band all had the chance to stand in the spotlight.
It was beautiful to see the kids' excitement as their loved ones filtered into the cafetorium to support them.
The projects and performances on display, too, showed effort and talent.
Some of the production theater students also dressed as artists to represent famous creators, including Edgar Degas and his dancer Rosita Mauri as well as more modern examples like Lin Manuel Miranda.
Creative outlets are of incredible value, not only on the individual level, but also on the community level. I'm grateful, too, for the new gallery space that is opening at the Starbright Center for the Arts, which will have a ribbon cutting on Friday.
When you see a beautiful mural in the community, watch a video on your phone or look at a well-designed object in your home, thank an artist and an art teacher.
You might be amazed at just how much they shape and improve our reality.
