OPINION
If you didn't get out for early voting, go vote Saturday.
There is at least one election affecting basically every community in the Ranch Cities area.
Local election participation is pitiful every time.
Whether it's the Pilot Point ISD trustee race and bond election, the Tioga City Council race, the Aubrey ISD trustee race, or the Providence Village special election and charter election, your voice needs to be heard.
The biggest impacts that are made on your everyday life come from the decisions made on these local councils and boards.
The right to have a say in our government also only truly works if we say what we want at the ballot box.
There are a few issues going on with the Pilot Point ISD election that have been discussed online, including a concern regarding 'eligibility requirements for individuals seeking to serve on the Board of Trustees,' as a Pilot Point ISD statement said.
I have an information request into Denton County about an arrest record for Kirsten Peoples from April 25, but I don't have enough information to responsibly report on that situation in detail yet. I learned years ago that even when we think we know someone serving in public office well, they can surprise us with activities that happen behind closed doors that come to light. I have also seen a lot of criticism of the political action committee Vote Yes for Pilot Point Kids during this election cycle, including the donors who contributed to that group.
Although I understand the concern about the appearance of a 'school bond playbook,' that I've heard in videos circulating online, I do still believe that the area will suffer if the bond does not pass, because the growth won't slow down just because you say no.
Whatever vote you plan to cast, cast it on Saturday before you lose your chance.
Help shape your community by showing up at the polls.
