Denton County officially marked completion of U.S. 380 on Braswell High School on June 22.
The $160.6 million project, which began January 2019, has raised medians with left and right turn lanes as well as widened roads and five grade separations at major crossings. The improvements span from Loop 288 to west of County Road 26 on the Collin County Line.
“I’d like to thank the many partners we had in this project. The cities, school districts, TxDOT, our state representatives have all come together to make this happen,” said Precinct 1 Commissioner Ryan Williams. “The project has greatly improved mobility, enhanced safety, and increased pedestrian access to businesses and the schools.”
Precinct 2 Commissioner Kevin W. Falconer recalled how the region was much different years ago when, as a child, he remembered seeing gravel trucks going up and down U.S. 380.
Today, the region is a major retail and residential area.
“We are so happy this has come about,” Commissioner Falconer said, adding the flow of traffic is significantly smoother along the still-developing corridor.
Denton County Judge Andy Eads, along with Precinct 3 Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell, and Commissioners Williams and Falconer, marked the occasion during a ribbon-cutting ceremony today at the Braswell High School parking lot.
“Upgrading our major thoroughfares is a long process where we collaborate with partners at the state, regional, and local levels,” Judge Eads said. “The process is to ensure the public and the county’s longterm transportation needs are met as we continue to grow by around 90 people every day.”
Commissioner Mitchell agreed. “This is an exciting day in Denton County,” she said. “With our fast-paced growth, it is important that we continue to update and enhance our roadways. I am excited to add another completed roadway to our list. Thanks to everyone who participated.”
Also at the U.S. 380 ceremony were State Representative Richard Hayes (District 57), State Representative Jared Patterson (District 106), Texas Department of Transportation Dallas District Director Travis Campbell, Denton ISD Superintendent Susannah O’Bara and other officials as well as individuals from the cities of Denton, Cross Roads, Oak Point and Frisco and the towns of Little Elm, Prosper and Providence Village.
