Lady Bulldogs notch win against S&S
The Tioga Lady Bulldogs varsity volleyball team earned their 18th win of the season, defeating the S&S Consolidated High School Lady Rams three sets to none Tuesday night.
The Lady Bulldogs moved like a well-oiled machine as they dismantled their opponents and outscored the Lady Rams 78-59 in the win.
“We played well, and I give credit to S&S; it's always a tough place to play,” said Trevin Robinson, Tioga head volleyball coach. “I believe it was our first time ever sweeping them, and that was something the girls talked about wanting to do going into the game.”
S&S kept things close in the first set, but Tioga held the edge, winning 25-20.
The Lady Bulldogs ran away with things in the second set, continuing to score offensively while their defense stifled the Lady Rams taking the set 25-13.
S&S continued to fight, finding their footing in the third set and keeping the score close, but Tioga eventually took the third and final set 28-26.
Middle blocker Kennedy Slay led the team with 13 kills, followed by senior outside hitter Kyndall Whitley, who had 9 kills.
Setter duo Ella Norwood and Sadie Bates kept the ball moving for Tioga, combining for 21 assists.
Senior libero Bella Dennis spearheaded the Lady Bulldogs’ defense with 18 digs, followed by sophomore defensive specialist Maddy Schon and Whitley, who both had 12 digs.
The win marks the Tioga’s 11th win in a row this season, and Robinson credited the Lady Bulldogs' success to the team’s preparation process.
“The girls are showing up to practice every day and competing at a high level,” he said. “Their goal is to make practice harder than the games, so they are prepared at the highest level. They are all bought in.”
Despite the Lady Bulldogs' winning streak, Robinson emphasized that he wants his team to stay grounded and locked-in on their season-long goals.
“Winning is difficult, no matter how good or bad you or your opponent is,” he said. “I want them to understand that what we are doing right now is a big deal, but I want them to continue being openminded and to keep building so we can keep chasing our end goal.”
The Lady Bulldogs will hit the road this weekend to take part in a volleyball tournament hosted by Nocona High School before going on the road again to face Howe and Whitesboro on Tuesday.
