PPES teacher arrested

April Michelle Howard, a Pilot Point Elementary School fourth-grade teacher, was arrested by the Pilot Point Police Department on Sept. 3 on a charge of injury of a child with intent to cause bodily injury, according to the Denton County Jail records.

The charge, according to the Texas Penal Code, is classified as a third-degree felony.

'We are writing to inform you of an allegation made regarding April Howard, a Teacher at Pilot Point Elementary School,' read one of two letters sent to Pilot Point Elementary School parents regarding the incident. 'The District was notified on August 21, 2026, of allegations that Ms. Howard inappropriately disciplined a student.'
