In reassessing the district’s student transfer fees, the Pilot Point ISD school board opted to reduce the fee to $0 from the $2,500 fee it recently adopted.
A presentation from Superintendent Dr. Shannon Fuller, with comment from several board members who had been present when the fee was adopted, explained the initial cause for the fee was to limit transfers to better manage student population.
“At one point the idea was we might manage the transfers from outside by placing a fee,” Fuller said. “We will do that regardless on the administrative side. The fee has nothing to do with that.”
Outgoing board member Coby Chandler made the motion, seconded by Craig Bickers with unanimous approval.
Executive Director of Administrative Services and Operations Dr. Brant Perry and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Alicia Bonnett later brought two large purchases before the board.
Perry asked for the board to allow the district to continue contracting with ABG for the remainder of the capital maintenance and repair projects related to the 2021 bond package.
“The district will utilize the remaining funds from the 2021 bond not to exceed the available balance, not to exceed just a hair under $517,000, to complete as many of these projects from our current needs assessment as possible,” Perry said. “To ensure these projects are finished within the bond timeline, we request approval to continue contracting, allowing them to execute the remaining projects efficiently.”
Mandy Kirby asked for an updated list of the remaining projects before Jacob Stuckly made the motion to unanimous approval.
Bonnett’s purchase was a 50% buy in on the LASO grant that would help with teacher training and materials and associated partnership contract the district recently acquired.
The board had no discussion before unanimously approving the item.
