The Tioga Lady Bulldogs’ season came to an end after losing a best-of-three series against the Archer City Lady Cats in the second round of the playoffs on April 1.
Both games in the series were closely contested, with the Lady Cats taking the slight edge, winning the first meeting 12-11 and the second 12-8.
Tioga cracked the scoreboard first in Game 1 when left fielder Skilar Hodge got home after a wild pitch got away from the Lady Cats’ catcher, and third baseman Kenzee Powers singled to left field, driving in one run and putting Tioga up 2-0 in the top of the first inning.
Archer City took the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the first after multiple errors from Tioga defenders allowed three runs to score.
The Lady Cats returned the favor when their pitcher walked three Lady Bulldogs in a row while the bases were loaded, putting Tioga back in front 5-3 in the top of the second inning.
The Lady Cats jumped back in front 8-5 in the bottom of the second behind two big hits that drove in five runs.
Archer City would add two more runs in the bottom of the third, widening the score to 10-5.
Tioga made it a one-point game, 10-9, in the top of the fifth inning with an insidethe- park home run from second baseman Bella Dennis and a double by Powers.
The Lady Bulldogs were able to recapture the lead, 1110, in the top of the seventh behind big hits from Powers and center fielder Kennedy Slay.
Lady Cats’ second baseman Adelyn Harvey tied the game at 11 with a triple down the left field line in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
Archer City was able to score the game-deciding run in the bottom of the eighth, taking the win 12-11.
The Lady Cats struck first in Game 2 when shortstop Millie Mayo hit a triple to right field and Brilee Canada hit a sacrifice ground ball, putting Archer City up 3-0 in the top of the first inning.
Tioga made it a one-score game, 3-2, in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice groundout from Hodge and a single from pitcher Abbie Benke.
Archer City would go on an 8-1 scoring run and find themselves up 11-3 after five innings.
The Lady Bulldogs would respond with a scoring run of their own, 5-1, but couldn’t complete the comeback, falling to Archer City, 12-8.
