Tioga grows by 10 acres

The Tioga City Council annexed an additional 10.76 acres into city limits after a public hearing at the top of the meeting.

Three items on the agenda dealt with the property, located adjacent to Lakeside, and several community members had questions about what would go there in the future and how construction would affect the drainage situation at the nearby residential properties.

“Capital Plumbing is going to have a business there,” Mayor Craig Jezek said. “Then on the front of 377, they’re going to put a commercial piece … the others will be single family residential. It can’t spill into your yard. It’s not supposed to. All that water, when all the engineering comes in, is going to flow back. There will be culverts and improvements to get that water flowing back.”

Council had little conversation on the following items, which annexed the property and set an additional public hearing for future zoning.

“From what he has discussed with us at city hall, they’re going to be larger lots,” Jezek said. “They’ll be above our minimum lot size.”

Before adjourning, council also discussed future meetings and workshops with the Planning and Zoning regarding the subdivision ordinance.

“The right hand needs to know what the left hand is doing,” P&Z member Dena Howard said. “We need something that can answer questions. It would be beneficial for everyone to come together with a workshop to start expediting it forward.”

Jezek explained the process has been a long one and will take some coordination to get over the finish line.

“It’s something we’ve needed for a long time,” he said. “Its just there is a lot of man power and a lot of hours that are going to have to take place to get through it. There are going to be several joint meetings. It’s not just one.”
