OPINION
If you're a registered voter who lives in the city of Pilot Point, I hope to see you at the candidate forum at 7 p.m. Monday evening.
The Pilot Point Community Opera House has been kind enough to work with me despite two false starts on getting a forum off the ground this election season to make a forum for the runoff election a reality.
Two years ago, the Post-Signal, Haughton Law Group and the Opera House worked together to hold a forum for the six people running for City Council at that time.
Ultimately, it's my goal to hold a forum before each election, and I know at least one of my fellow moderators this year, Cindy Kennedy, hopes to help me in that endeavor.
She and our third moderator Barry Bryan have been gracious enough to step up to help give the two candidates running in the runoff election for Place 6, Andrew Ambrosio and Steven Birkelbach, an opportunity to answer a set of nine questions that we're developing from community input.
We won't have the list of questions set until the morning of the forum.
That's because we want people to have the chance to submit those questions to Cindy at clkdancer55@ gmail.com or to me at [email protected] until Sunday at 5 p.m.
Neither candidate will have the questions in advance. The point isn't for us to be on the stage. It's for the candidates to have a chance to show their priorities and their personalities in real time and to have another opportunity to connect with the community.
Everyone is welcome at the event.
That said, it won't be a
debate.
There will be no back and forth from the candidates or from the crowd.
The point is for the words the candidates say to be heard directly from them to you.
Our last forum was quite a success, with a full crowd turning out to hear what those six people had to say.
I hope to see the seats filled once again so the voters can make an informed choice about who they want to see represent them.
