VLK go

Pending the upcoming conclusion of the district’s remaining 2021 bond projects, the Pilot Point ISD school board terminated its contracts with VLK Architects in favor of returning to the request for qualification process for future work.

In the recent past, the board has stuck with VLK, so, Superintendent Dr. Shannon Fuller explained, the board decided it was time to reassess the market.

“What we’re doing is finishing the work, then going out for an RFQ because they haven't done that for four or five years,” Fuller said. “We’ll look at what’s out on the market and who will bid.”

The upcoming RFQ will be for both an architect and general contractor.

Earlier in the meeting, Executive Director of Administrative Services and Operations Dr. Brant Perry brought two items to the board pertaining to storm damages at Massey Stadium, including the insurance deductible, which crested $50,000, thus requiring board approval.

“Massey Stadium sustained damage as a result of the windstorm that occurred March 6,” Perry said. “That included damage to the press box, bleachers, sound system and track. To make these repairs, the district submitted a claim to our insurance company that in- cludes a $50,000 deductible as outlined in our policy.”

Following board approval, Perry’s second item again looked at Massey, this time for contingency services in partnership with Coryell Roofing, the same company who recently did work on the high school.

“We would like to contract with Coryell Roofing through an insurance contingency services for these damages,” Perry said. “They can support our recovery efforts by reviewing insurance policies to ensure the damage is covered, helping file claims quickly, efficiently and correctly, documenting all damage and repair to get full reimbursement, advising us on solutions, and planning for future risks.”

He continued. “These services will help us recover fast and reduce financial loss,” Perry said. “The district is only responsible for the $50,000 buydown. Emergency repairs are included in those services, and those have already been completed and will be paid for using insurance proceeds.”

A new board member, Lora Renfro, following her oath, joined the reinstated president Renee Polk in approving both of Perry’s items, alongside the rest of the board.
