June Dale West

June Dale West, 88, of Whitesboro, Texas was called to her eternal home in heaven on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

June was born on September 27, 1936, to Jack Mershon and Mildred Louise (Lawes) Suddath.

She graduated from Whitesboro High School and Texas Women’s University with her degree in nursing. June was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pilot Point. She served her church in many ways, as a member of The United Methodist Women, the prison ministry, the fine arts program, the bereavement committee, the nurture committee, the choir, the bell choir, and the prayer shawl committee. June took care of many people over the years in her nursing career, working for Wilson N. Jones and Texoma Medical Center as well as the Director of Nursing for Whitesboro Nursing Home, in addition to her nursing career, she was known throughout the community for her talent in sewing and alterations, operating under the name “Grandma June’s Alterations.” She worked on everything from everyday clothing to prom dresses for the community and needle point projects for friends and family. She loved dancing to Elvis Presley, spending time with her cherished family, playing card games, traveling and taking photos of nature. June was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished the time spent with each one of her family members.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Lynn Kennedy of Pilot Point; daughter, Laura Gail Kennedy of Whitesboro and significant other, Bill Serna-Gonzalez; son, Stephen Dois Kennedy of Henderson, Nevada; son, Christopher David Kennedy of Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kelsey Barnard and husband, Joey, Rachel McCoy and fiancé Alex Rodriguez, Caleb McCoy, Will McCoy and Jackie Bryce, great-grandchild, Tripp Barnard, life partner Warren McCulloch, niece Suzette Strong, nephew Clint Strong, niece Leslie White and husband, Brandon, nephew Jeffery Moore and wife, Julie, niece Julie Moore, as well as numerous other loving family and friends.

Pallbearers were Caleb McCoy, Will McCoy, Joey Barnard, Alex Rodriguez, Steve Kennedy, Chris Kennedy and honorary pallbearers were Warren McCulloch and Bill Serna-Gonzalez.

June was preceded in death by Jack and Mildred Suddath, Shirley and Jerry Strong, Darlene and Glenn Moore, Chigger Suddath, Glenn “Bebo” Moore III and Dois Kennedy.

Funeral services honoring June were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in Pilot Point, officiated by Rev. Jim Porter. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. A time of visitation for family and friends was held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro.
