Donald Alfred ‘Don’ Smith

Donald Alfred “Don” Smith, age 93, of Pilot Point, Texas, passed away on August 27, 2025, in Denton, Texas. He was born on August 3, 1932, in Kalgorie, Texas, to Alto and Lucille Smith.

Don was a devoted preacher whose greatest joy was sharing the love of Jesus with others. His faith guided his life, and his love for Christ was his first love. For over 30 years, Don devoted himself to mission work with Bob and Betty King, serving communities in Mexico. He touched many lives through his ministry, and his legacy of faith will continue to inspire generations to come.

He worked hard throughout his life, driving trucks for Kroger for 35 years before retiring. Later, alongside his wife Judy, he owned and operated “Daylight Donuts,” where he continued to serve his community with warmth, dedication & coffee. Don was also known for his generosity and selflessness. He was extremely giving and charitable, always willing to lend a hand or even give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Monroe Smith, his previous wife Lou Smith, and his daughter Rhonda Holmes.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Judy Smith; two sisters and one brother: Vada White, JoNell Price and Steve Smith; six daughters and one son and their spouses: Naomi and Chester McNabb, Helen and Terry Burroughs, Barbara and Jerry Jackson, Donna and Ron Cantrell, Danny and Lori Sullivan, Tina and Mick Heald, and Donnette and Larry Ludlam. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great pride and joy.

Don’s life was rooted in love—love for his Savior, for his family and for people. He was deeply dedicated to his family, and his legacy of faith, generosity and devotion will live on in all who were blessed to know him.

A memorial will be held September 6, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Cowboy Church at 603 S. Morrison St., Pilot Point. Those who would like to honor Don’s memory are invited to make a donation to the missionary work he supported with Bob and Betty King in Mexico’s organization: Hungry Kids International.
