John Elliott

John Elliott

John Elliott, 88, of Providence Village, Texas, passed away on October 14, 2026. Born on March 18, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, John dedicated his life to serving others and caring for the people he loved most. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 22 years, retiring with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his military career, he served as a combat medic attached to the Marines, including two tours in Vietnam. During his second deployment, he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in service to his country. He was also stationed in Hawaii during the historic year it became the 50th state.

Following his military retirement, John continued his career in public service as a law enforcement officer with the Nueces County Constable’s Department, where he served for 20 years and retired with the rank of Lieutenant.

While John’s career reflected his commitment to service and duty, his greatest devotion was always to his family.

On March 31, 1956, John married Maxene after a whirlwind six-week courtship. With orders to his first duty station and a shared certainty that they wanted to build a future together, they chose marriage rather than face the prospect of a long-distance relationship. What began as a whirlwind romance became a 70year marriage and a lifetime of love and commitment. Maxene was the center of John’s world, and the life they built together was his greatest accomplishment. John and Maxene raised three children: Robert, married to Chris; Carole, married to Jaime Gutierrez; and Janette, married to Jason Pool. Their family grew to include six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who carry forward the legacy of a man who valued family above all else.

John will be remembered as a provider and protector, a man who took seriously his responsibility to care for those he loved. The same sense of duty that guided his military and law enforcement careers carried into his personal life, where his greatest priority was ensuring the well-being of those closest to him.

His life was one of service, commitment and enduring love. He leaves behind a family shaped by his devotion and a legacy that will live on through the generations who loved him.

John was preceded in death by his brother, Pete Skinner, and his mother, Janet Micek.

John’s memorial service is Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 2 p.m., at First Rock Fellowship 201 N. Cherry St., Aubrey, TX. Inurnment at DFW National Cemetery will be at a later date.
