A man died at a Pilot Point residence Friday morning after he was shot by a police officer who responded to a report of a fight in progress.

The Department of Public Safety reported that police were called about 11:15 a.m. at a house in the 500 block of East Division. When officers arrived, they saw a man with a gun in the driveway of the house, DPS Lt. Lonny Haschel said in a report on the incident.

According to Pilot Point police, Haschel said, the suspect went into the house and police entered after hearing sounds of a struggle. Officers reported that the man produced a gun and ignored police commands, Haschel said. A Pilot Point officer then fired his service weapon, striking the suspect. EMS was notified and responded to the scene. The man died at the scene, Haschel said in his report.

A second man sustained multiple injuries from the fight and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The incident is under investigation by the Texas Rangers . No additional information is currently available, Haschel said.
